Stings

This piece features a boned satin fitted bodice embellished with crystals. The skirt is coral satin crafted with organza and chiffon draping, accompanied by a clay coral structure. This creation was completed over a span of two months. The process involved several intricate steps, including fabric manipulation and the draping of the bodice. A new technique was used on the organza skirt with heat to manipulate the fabric. The theme of this piece is the emotion of putting on a facade and hiding anger inside. This represents the frustration with the lack of understanding others had for my Adhd and the various assumptions that went along with it. This piece was based on the fire coral plant. Like that plant the exterior is beautiful and delicate but it causes injury if touched creating a painful condition. This pain mirrors my experience with my peers. One of the biggest challenges I had in creating this piece was stabilizing the coral sculpture. It had to be remade multiple times to give it the necessary structural integrity.
