Date

October 2022

This piece features a corset made from a salvaged tablecloth and a skirt made from salvaged fabric, tablecloths, 3d printer scraps and other textile shop waste. This piece was completed over a span of three months. The process involved collecting material waste, drafting a pattern for the top, and assembling the skirt materials. The theme of this piece is turning waste into something beautiful. It represents the way that trash has taken over many nature sites as global pollution becomes an even bigger issue. This represents a way in which waste can be recycled into something new. Additionally, because the fashion industry is one of the largest sources of pollution globally, this piece is a form of protest against the wasteful practices in the fashion industry by showcasing a fraction of the waste it creates. It is also in line with current efforts by some fashion leaders to build more sustainable industry practices.
